Half the sugar, twice the spice.
I’m young mom, wife and writer living in New York. I wear what’s comfortable, I don’t use makeup and can’t style my hair to save my life. I’m into the natural lifestyle and attachment parenting. I listen to rock music and wear a lot of dark colors. Still not phased? Did I mention i am visually impaired and not the far sighted/near sighted kind of impaired either. I’m talking about blind in one eye and bad vision in the other kind of visually impaired.
It’s easy to see on the surface that I am not your normal wife and mother. We are not your normal family. My husband and I like to challenge the norms of society. A little controversy makes life interesting.
I started this blog to discuss topics I’m passionate about like parenting, family, natural living, etc. I intend to do informative posts, and casual posts. So if you’re looking for something more professional, you’re looking at the wrong blog. If you’re looking for something more personal, then welcome to the Rebel House.
Our relationship started out pretty unconventional. We met in October 2010 on a virtual world called Second Life. We were both participating in bloodlines (a vampire role play on second life). I was Anya Darkfury an Ancient of my clan and Colin was Mandrake Graycloud a young vamp from another clan whose profile I stumbled upon. Yeah we’re geeks. I contacted him because our profiles were identical and I thought we’d become pretty good friends on second life. I never thought anything would come of it considering he was from England and I was here in America.
One night he asked if we could skype. I hesitantly agreed. I was pretty self conscious. I answered him without video at first, but it didn’t take him long to get convince me to video chat. It was love at first sight. No really, it was… and not just because he is smokin’ hot. It felt like I’d known him all my life. After skyping for six hours we were pretty convinced we were soulmates and a few days later we officially started dating over the internet. Yeah, most people either thought it was silly, dangerous or pointless. My mom was the first person to warm up to the idea.
After a couple of months of skyping, facebooking and second life chatting, Colin planned to come to the states. On February 21, 2011, I was meeting Colin at JFK airport for the first time. About a month and a half later I found out I was pregnant. Honestly we weren’t too freaked out because we had already secretly gotten engaged. I guess the secrets out now though. We got married a couple of weeks later on May 13, 2011. We have absolutely no regrets. Our love has not wavered even once in the last two and half years despite the challenges and obstacles we’ve had to overcome such as Colin’s immigrations, opposition from some of our family members (not our parents thank goodness) and so on. It’s hard to believe I found my prince in gothic armor ^_^
Drake was born on December 5, 2011 at 10:15pm, after only a five hour labor. He was two days late.. He was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his throat three times. Colin never had a chance to cut the umbilical cord because the doctors had to be quick with the removal of the cord. At first he was silent and unmoving, our hearts sank. The room was silent. After a moment he cried, a quiet little ound. We cried in relief and joy. He was strong and healthy. The nurses cleaned him up and gave him right to me. He was so perfect and beautiful. He weighed 7lbs and 4 oz, and his length was 20 1/2 in. We were in the hospital for three days.
Drake iwas and still is an advanced child. He learns quickly. He was able to roll onto his side as a newborn. He was rolling completely by 2 months (he was also holding his head up at that time). He was sitting by five months and crawling by 6 months. He was standing at eight months and walking by 11 months (his vocabulary was also very vast by that time). Now he’s running, talking (phrases and words) and just super smart at 20 months.
He was really behaved, now he’s a mischevious little boy who loves dirt and rough housing! He is so much like me and Colin. Since he was born he’s liked rock music, though he’s more eclectic now (like his mama). He watches a little bit of TV, but he prefers to play. HIs favorite shows are Rescue Bots, Special Agent Oso, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. His favorite movie is Wreck It Ralph. He always runs around saying “I’m gonna wreck it”. And he most certianly does wreck it! He’s recently taken an interest in clean up time though. He loves to play pretend with fake food and his castle and knights. His favorite stuffed animal is a golden dragon he calles”Draggy”, he sleeps with it every night. He loves sports. Currently he has a love for basketball, baseball and skateboarding. He also loves animals and nature.
He’s a pretty independant kid. He prefers to figure things out for himself. He gets mad if we try to help him without him asking for help first. He’s very maticulous. I know that sounds weird considering h likes to make a mess, but it’s true. He’s full of energy. It’s hard to keep up with him sometimes. He’s very polite. He has been saying plae and thank you since he turned one and has recently added excuse me and bless you. He’s a charmer and a flirt. He’s just adorable and we love him so much. If you can’t tell already, he’s my pride and joy. I could talk about this kid for days.
